Children's Grief Support Groups What age are the children in group? Children are placed in grief support groups by ages. The children's group serves grieving children ages 3-11.
When do groups meet? Each group meets 2 times a month, from 6:30-8:00.
What do they do in group? Groups follow a regular structure of activities. We start with children sitting in a circle and introducing themselves. After we review the group rules, the children participate in an activity designed to help them talk about some aspect of the grieving process. This may include art work, games, and other hands-on activity. Some time is allowed for play at the end of each group.
How soon after the death do children come to group? Children may come at any time. Some families come immediately following a death. Others come several months later. Lost & Found encourages participation in group whenever the children and parents feel they are ready for a grief support group.
How many are in the groups? Groups range in size from 6-12 children. If a group is large, the children are sub-divided into smaller groups to encourage more sharing and to allow for more attention from the adult volunteers.
